Dear Visitors,
It is our pleasure to welcome you to the home page of the Michigan Commanders Battalion our Sea Cadet Unit ages 13-17 and the Training Ship Grand Rapids our League Cadet Unit ages 11-13. Both units are based at the Naval Operational Support Center Grand Rapids, Michigan.
The Sea Cadets is a non-profit youth based program for young Americans. The programs allows youth to meet new people that they will become friends with for the rest of their lives. Both age groups are able to learn and train at numerous military bases both in and out of the United States. The Corps allow youth to sample military life without any commitment and mature both socially and academically. The Cadets enjoy a gang free and drug free environment which challenges them on a daily basis.
Cadets meet and train one weekend per month and attend a summer training of their choosing after they attend a recruit training at any one of the multiple training sites across the US including the USN Great Lakes Recruit Training Command in Illinois. All training is conducted by active, retired, military personnel and other highly trained volunteers. All adult officers and leaders have a complete background investigation and must serve a one year probationary peroid prior to official appointments as an adult leader.
Please enjoy all of the information on our site and if you wish to receive more information please use the "Information" tab on this page.
Sincerely,
The Officers and Staff of the Michigan Commanders Battalion and Training Ship Grand Rapids.
